Pre Burn from 65' Up in the Air, Burning Man 2005
Hey Fellow Burners and Other Friends!
Welcome to my Burning Man Images pages. I am currently processing images from Burning Man '05 and hope to get them up here soon. New this year, I was on assignment, shooting pictures for Rolling Stone magazine, and have 3 out of the 5 images used in the Sept 22 article. It is unfortunate that the writer didn't get the wonder of Burning Man; the article has angered most burners that I know that have read it. So disappointing for me as I wanted to pair my images up with a great article. Maybe next year?
This year brought many challenges while shooting for Rolling Stone; their publication (press run) dates mandated that I get images to them while I was on the playa. This meant relying on the wireless internet access (WiFi) to communicate via email and upload the final hi resolution images to them. It worked great the first two days I was there (before the "official" opening, but then the WiFi was hammered by everyone trying to use it, making it impossible to upload large images. After three days of panic, and with great thanks to bubba, a camp mate who turned me on to "I saw a guy that had a satellite system" and the wonderfully gracious burner Trout who really DID have a two-way satellite link and facilitated uploading my images to Rolling Stone successfully! Also, I had the extreme pleasure of getting my first aerial photos and seeing BRC from the air! Great thanks and appreciation to pilot Spitfire and airport hostess Little Piggy for a wonderful and fruitful experience. We were up on Friday, mid day, before the burn, and I was able to edit and send via satellite an aerial image that afternoon, received by Rolling Stone around 4PM. Now remember, this is late Friday afternoon, before a three-day end of summer holiday weekend ~~ and I bought the Sept 22 issue of Rolling Stone in Santa Rosa off the newsstand the following Wednesday, sometime midday, and it had that aerial shot that I took just two business days prior!!! I was blown away!!!
These Burning Man pages are private pages not accessible from www.donjackson.com (and please feel free to visit there -- my "regular" home page for my nature, wildlife, landscape, people and commercial photography. If you want to send me any comments or if you are the primary focus of an image and do not want it to appear here, please email me at bm05@donjackson.com. Enjoy! Don (aka Imagician - new playa name given by Julie -- thanks!)
I have sent images into the Burning Man website (www.burningman.com), and hope they will have them up soon as well.
